Évreux, prefecture and cathedral
Évreux, the prefecture of the Eure, grew around its Notre-Dame Cathedral, remarkable for its stained glass and slender spire. The banks of the Iton, which splits into several branches across town, offer a pleasant path all the way to the town hall. The theatre, the museum and a few pretty pedestrian streets complete the walk. Évreux surprises those who discover it, and you willingly share a coffee in the sun.
Vernon and Pont-Audemer
By the Seine, Vernon is known for its Old Mill clinging to the piers of a medieval bridge, an iconic image painted by Monet from Giverny. Half-timbered houses and the Notre-Dame collegiate church rhythm the centre. Westwards, Pont-Audemer, nicknamed the little Norman Venice, lines up its canals and overhanging houses: a soft setting for an afternoon together, strolling from one bridge to the next.
Louviers, Bernay and other stops
Louviers preserves a fine flamboyant Notre-Dame church and a revitalised centre by its banks. Bernay keeps a rare Romanesque abbey church and a renowned market. So many places where life is good, under an hour from Évreux. On Lyad, members from the Eure share their favourite little towns: it is up to you to find someone to meet near where you live.
